On June 24th, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Leon Rodriguez to be Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Mr. Rodriquez replaces Alejandro Mayorkas, who has been promoted to Deputy Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.
Mr. Rodriguez had been Director of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services since 2011. Prior to that, he briefly served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice. Since graduating from Boston College law school, he has held a number of positions in the federal, state and local governments, as well as private practice.
President Obama nominated Mr. Rodriguez at the beginning of the year.
We look forward to working with the new head of USCIS to expand opportunities for immigrants to become U.S. citizens.
