Earlier this month, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) awarded nearly $10 million in citizenship and naturalization grants. 46 organizations across 21 states will receive federal funding to support citizenship preparation services for lawful permanent residents over the next fiscal year. Many of these organizations are New Americans Campaign partners and affiliates.
The Citizenship and Integration Grant Program is part of USCIS’ efforts to support effective citizenship preparation services and provide information to immigrants and public or private nonprofit organizations.
This is the eighth year of the agency’s grant program. Since 2009, $63 million in 308 grants have been awarded in 37 states and the District of Columbia. USCIS estimates that more than 156,000 LPRs pursuing citizenship have been assisted by the agency’s integration grants.
These USCIS grants are one way in which New Americans Campaign partners’ work is supported. Campaign national partners like the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles and Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC) Inc. work with and support our field of local service providers in their naturalization efforts by sharing naturalization best practices and participating in learning opportunities at the annual United for Citizenship conference.
The IRC also supports its field offices in the grant application process through the technical review of grant content and developing the proposed structure of service delivery.
Congratulations to these 12 Campaign partners and affiliates receiving funds from of this year’s grant program!
